Bamboo Stool Makingover
The First Layer

As the first layer of interaction between products and users, textiles provide the initial visual and tactile impressions. I'm delighted to participate in "The First Layer" workshop co-organized by Shih Chien University and Kvadrat.
In this workshop project, we will utilize textiles to give existing products a brand new look. I have chosen a bamboo stool from my home as the object of transformation.

The Past Story of the Stool

This stool named "Inheritance" is because the stool has been in my family since I was born. I think the preciousness of the stool is how it constructed without any screws and glue. I expext that after the renovation, the user can see the past story of the object.

Deconstructing the textile, I carefully pull out some strands of silk thread. This allows the textile to wrap around the bamboo frame while still revealing the natural texture of the bamboo itself. Simultaneously, it creates diffferent patterns within the fabric itself.

After dismantling the bamboo stool, I discovered that the seat was constructed from individual bamboo strips. As I disassembled the chair frame, the bamboo strips scattered apart. Using textiles, I separate the bamboo strips to highlight their structural beauty.
